Re: YLI Silk thread junkie
I just did a rewrite of this info earlier this morning but listed all the Pearsall Gossamer colors that were available to me here in the USA. Can anyone update the missing YLI part numbers with "near certainty"? Thanks. Bob Pearsall Color Number - YLI Color Number 1 White - WHT White 2 Str...

Re: Visiting John Shaner (Fly Tying Historian)
Regarding the Chadwick's 477 wool color, I just checked my card of 477 against the posted photo and it (the photo) is really pretty close. It may show just a touch more red but I might attribute that to the magnification. I've seen quite a few subs and the closest came from Veniard, which I purchas...

Re: H,C. Cutcliffe Flies
Received my Cutcliffe book by Paul Gaskell. Now where the heck do I get dyed Bullock's fur? ....and what the heck is a Bullock anyway? (Any sub available here Stateside?) I believe it is a Bullock is a castrated male bull or ox. I was hoping it WASN'T that. Looks like another "Tup's" dubb...

Re: Hackle Folding Tool
I need to read this a couple times to fully understand, but sound like a fun exercise. Thank you for sharing. ;) Cut a straw 1 1/2" long; 45 degree angle at one end flat of the other; full slit at bottom of the 45 degree angle; cut a little V-notch in slit at bottom of angle. Will try to take ...

Re: Hackle Folding Tool
For quite a few years, a friend and I were invitied to tie flies at the "Celebration of Fly Tying" event that used to be held in Grand Rapids, MI. During the fly tying, we used a small "tool(?)" to hold back the hackles before doing a whip finish. It never failed that during each...

Re: Blue Dun Hen Hackle
I have no idea what a "true" blue dun hackle might look like. But years ago, I bought several shades of "grey / gray" hen capes from the Feather Emporium (I know, lots of people do not like this company). By that, I mean what I woukd call "light, medium or darker" shade...

Re: button hole twist
floss.jpeg Hi Ronr The top spool is Pearsalls, the others are Belding Corticelli. None of them are all that easy to separate without getting a bunch of fuzz. I would also be inclined to find some #50 or #60 thread. Just curious though, are you sure the commercial fly is silk? the body of the fly do...
