Re: Baetis Soft Hackle
I think it was Tim Cammisa who said Kapok can make beginner look like an expert at dubbing, and I have to agree that it is very easy to make a tight noodle first time every time. Floats like cork, and takes dye easily. And it isn't synthetic.

Re: Three Spiders
Phileangler I'm in the same boat. I've only been tying about 2 years and as I live in a part of the country where fly fishing isn't popular I never really had a mentor. YouTube is a great learning tool but it's also a source of frustration for me. People will take the whole "substitute what yo...

Re: Three Spiders
Thanks for all the replies. As I said in my original post, these flies looked fine to me after tying, but in the photographs, I could see a lot of room for improvement. Macrophotography can be a really nice tool for learning. I also have to say that I would never have been able to navigate the steep...

Re: Fenwick Streamflex Plus 10' 3 wt and a cast of two wets
Thanks, Ron, my days on the water are generally with only one rod, and I really prefer to fish on the surface or just under. I'd rather gear up with that in mind; hence, I haven't wanted to purchase one. Another tool that won't get much work, and I have way too many such tools already. But you're co...

Dude and JV I've owned the 10'6" 3wt Cortland Competion nymphing rod for about 4 years now. It is advertised as its name suggest as a nymphing rod. And true to its name, I've used it mostly for Euro nymphing. It will enable me to cast a Swentosky style mono rig, or attach a Rio "shorty&qu...

Re: Hemlock
Hi Norm, that is a really nice looking clean fly! Looks too nice to fish! I have a question. Do you treat the turkey with anything? I ask because when I tie my Parachute Schroeders Caddis, the turkey becomes really ratty after a couple of fish. I was thinking about using some Softex, but I've never ...

Re: Who Fishes Wood?
Ray Thanks for the nice compliment about my fly tying. This OLD guy (77) appreciates it! If I recall, I decided to take up fly fishing around thev 1998 / 1999 time frame. I started out with a couple Orvis graaphite rods / reels (and 3 or 4 more Orvis / Hardy graphite rods over the years) but then g...
