Lovely dressing. I'm going to have to borrow my friends copy of Trout since I don't have my own. I really like the hooks your using. My friend finally got some in his shop and I bought almost everything he had. A bit pricey, but a very nice hook.

Re: Meet the team
Beautifully dressed team of flies. If there are cased caddis about, still attached to their rocks, I've found the Black and Peacock to be a killer pattern. I'd fish all three with confidence.

Re: pheasant and quail
I like that fly a lot. The backlighting of the body is a very nice touch.

Vicki, The answer is "All of the above", plus whatever else you can lay your hands on. The feathers I reach for most often are Starling, Hungarian Partridge, and a bunch of nice hen necks that I got from Jim Slattery ( http://www.jimsflyco.com/ ). Denny Conrads (www.conranch.com ) JV hen n...

Re: March Brown
One thing I learned about those old guys who seem to be catching fish. They know what they're talking about. I learned a lifetimes worth about flyfishing while tossing flies with just such a gentleman on the Yellowstone River. One of the best weeks of my life, fishing wise.

Andrew,
Feign confidence all you want. I will be fishing that pattern with great confidence on the local waters. Apparently I haven't spent enough time perusing Williams' Dictionary.

Re: Grouse Spider Variants
Very buggy looking flies. I am partial to the orange silk with cobblers wax. The more muted colors look very good.

Re: Stewarts Black Spider
I've had West Slope Cutthroat take a size 14 Baillie's (Stewart's) black spider in the middle of an October Caddis hatch. I assume (and that's dangerous) the Spider looked more alive than the actual Caddis did. My Go-To fly on most rivers.
