Re: leisenring lift

Bill

I believe that "deadly curve" refers to the curve in the line during the lift when downstream in front of the fish.

Re: what size soft hackles do you tie/use

My size hook depends on what I am imitating or attracting. ;) Like most of the posters my average soft hackle fly is tied in the 14-16 size range. My favorite fly to fish during the year is a 2XL #8 or #10 October Caddis SH and some steelhead SHs are up in the Ought range. Most of my tiny wet flies ...

Re: Hare and Copper. Kind of.

I tied this flymph version up a few weeks ago with a copper rib and thorax more in keeping with the traditional H&C nymph.

It is a variation of the Copper, Hare and Partridge tied by Soft-hackle posted on the Fly Tying Forum.

Re: BBC Soft Hackle

Re: Weeds, weeds, weeds and low water

Is this flat water or riffles? Do the weeds break the surface? Are there feeding lanes running through the weeds? Is It wadeable? :?: Sounds like a case for short line indicator or straight line nymphing if the weeds go to the top. Otherwise why not swing some Flymphs or soft hackles. A small Stewar...

Re: W. C. Stewarts Brown vs. Black Tying Silk

We know from Ronalds' The Fly-Fisher's Entomology (and others at the time) many colors (and shades of color) including browns, yellows, reds, greens, orange and even purple were used for trout not to mention Salmon flies. As Blacker said in The Art of Fly-Making "There is a very beautiful silk ...

Re: W. C. Stewarts Brown vs. Black Tying Silk

And maybe Stewart merely wanted some contrasting color to show in the body much as we use a different color silk to show through the body of our Flymphs. After all the color of the hackles name the different Stewart spiders not the body color. Is there any thread dyeing reason for the Red Spider to ...
