Re: Assorted fur offer
I purchased a "grab bag" from Derek, $30 paypal, including shipping. There's a lot of volume of fur. Pieces were quite large. It wasn't labeled, but I grabbed photos and emailed him the photos, and Derek was happy to ID them. over 10 beaver pieces 1 skunk piece 1 coyote (or wolf, not certa...

Re: Three Spiders
If you go back in time, the illustrations of North Country flies in the books by Edmonds & Lee (1916) and Pritt (1886) show much longer hackles on these types of flies. (Meaning, yours seem fine.) dc04c0aa-a8b4-4d8e-b7db-32ac2abe7f6f.jpeg Here's a link to Edmonds & Lee https://hdl.handle.ne...

Re: Three Spiders
I have found it helps at times to mark 2mm behind the eye with a Sharpie. Use that mark as a border for your material, as in don't cross that line. Then when your materials are tied at the line you will have room for your head without crowding the eye. That's a good idea! Sometimes I need to put a ...

Usually tied in at the butt. Sometimes when I have to use a tiny feather, I tie in by the tip because my hackle pliers won’t bite into the tip.Ron Eagle Elk wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 7:53 am Dale, Are you tying in your feathers by the tip or by the butt? Just curious

Three Spiders
Still learning, I've been busy tying "unmentionables" like Woolly Buggers, Bead head nymphs, etc. Even a squirmy or two. But this evening, I decided to tie some classic Spiders. Partridge and Orange TMC 103BL size 17 YLI #216 Bright Orange Silk Hungarian Partridge Upper Breast https://i.ib...

Re: Tying Wax
I purchased some L Harrington Keene White Wax from Gunpowder Tackle. This wax looks more "milky" than other waxes I've seen. Anyway, in the package was an insert that indicated storage in the freezer would prolong life. Obviously, you wouldn't want to store the whole piece in the freezer, ...

Re: Protected Bird Species
Just to add a little bit more information. Our FWS does its work. I got this package from Steve at Cookshill today. It was delayed a bit, and now I know why. https://i.ibb.co/g73yrH9/Screen-Shot-2022-02-15-at-6-56-25-PM.jpg https://i.ibb.co/HTxGwkh/Screen-Shot-2022-02-15-at-6-56-44-PM.jpg I had a pa...

Re: Protected Bird Species
Hi Bob, I've been following the thread on the Bamboo board about Snipe as well. There must be something about the MBTA which excludes birds sourced outside the USA, but I've not seen the actual wording of that exclusion. Steve, from Cookshill, says it is ok to send Common Snipe, Euro Golden Plover, ...

Re: Fly Library
Do you folks think that flat storage of soft hackle flies in pocketed pages would damage the hackle?
I guess if the hackle doesn't get folded, it should be ok?
I worry about how some of my fly boxes (I use slit foam) can mess up some of my (more delicate) flies.
