Re: Spymph

Great looking fly and I like the consistent body. I am going to have to give the Splymph a try again using turkey since my goose quill attempts have not produced the results I wanted. Just to make certain, by turkey herl do you mean the individual quill from the flank feather? Thanks!

Re: Hare's Ear Brahma Flymph

Great looking fly and I like the look of the Brahma hackle and tail - looks to me like a yellow tinted grouse or woodcock feather.

Re: Tiny Snipe and Purple

Thanks for the comments. The technique for sizing a larger hackle to a smaller fly has been around for quite a while - it takes some experimenting to manipulate the hackle fibers around the fly and initially tying them loosely enough to spin with subsequent tight wraps but the final effect is very s...

Re: Red Wire Soft Hackle

Thanks for the comments. I still have a long way to go with my photography (lighting, angle of shot, background) but it was good to get some usable results.

Re: Your Most Productive flies in 2015

I was trying to wait until I got the macro mode working on my camera but I have been striking out so here is my list: Copperhead Nymph (14-18) - Basically a copper bead headed and copper ribbed hares ear Thoraxed Partridge and Orange SH (14-18) Thoraxed Snipe and Purple SH (16-18) Len Wright's Flut...

Tiny Snipe and Purple

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz63/pbergamo/Soft%20Hackles%20002.jpg OK, I should have trimmed that small piece of purple thread but my point was to show a tiny soft hackle fly tied using a method that I have seen some of you describe where you can size a larger feather to a smaller fly. I may...

Red Wire Soft Hackle

http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz63/pbergamo/002_3.jpg Well, I was looking for something red to try out the macro feature on my camera and I came across the "Red A** Soft Hackle" on the web, which I decided to rename for display on this forum. The pattern shown contains: - Size 16 1XL...

Re: Grouse and Goose Twist Softhackle

William - I have been using Pearsall's Gossamer but cannot seem to get the look of your examples, although each of the flies I have tried tying are very fish worthy. Looking at your examples I suspect I am winding the goose quill fibers and silk too tight but I will keep at it.
