Re: Useing wool for dubbing

Often as not I use yarn as it comes in the same way Sawyer did, it can be untwisted and used in the smaller strands or it can be pulled apart into fibers and then used in a noodle or twisted in a loop- all dubbing methods end up making a yarn, so if it works as is or slightly unraveled I save a step...

Re: UV2 Dun

Actually it's been way over 4 decades since I was anywhere that had black lights, and since I'd have been on a liberty then, there is a possibility that I might have been somewhat inebriated, so no the results of black lights on white or red shirts didn't register with me. The video, like all video ...

Re: UV2 Dun

Briefly explain the UV part to an old guy? How much UV is at 3' deep on a moon light night? How do they put UV into materials? Does the UV material look red or blue under water? I have kinda thought the UV material was to catch fishermen more than fish, but that may be based on the history of most t...

Re: Scissor Recommedations

i had read about Fiskars on another site and bought some, the finger holes are ridiculously small on the ones I got, only fit my smallest finger. That is a learning opportunity for me. The best thing about the Anvil pair is the adjustable loops.

Re: Silk Thread

I'm no expert and have only been dabbling with flies since the mid '70s, so, jmo, I have never seen silk tying threads! Yet my flies have caught a few fish. Rayon floss is as close as I've ever been to silk. I think if the object is to build a near replica of an ancient pattern that one should be fa...

Re: Tying a Black & Purple

Thank you Bob. I don't like adding new patterns to my boxes because I get easily confused, but I've copied your instructions and will tie some of those.

Re: Custom Leaders - My next adventure

Thank you, I book marked them yesterday, but only found it in 5X and larger and then only in 300M spools- but their price plus shipping is about equal to that of a 25M spool imported. It would be a life supply of tippet for me. I was really more interested in the smaller sizes where I currently use ...

Re: Felt paged wallet OK for all soft hackles?

Like I said it might be coincidence and it might be "yet", I've only been using the borax that way for about three years, Other things to try are cinnamon sticks and cloves, both seem to be insect and mice repellents. I learned about borax 30 years ago when we got infested win German cockr...

Re: Felt paged wallet OK for all soft hackles?

Mike62, I'm not familiar with the wallets you have, but there are two possibilities; the shearling is sewn in or it is cemented to a heavier leather. You can follow the same way of replacing it. if it is stitched simply cut the thread, remove the stitches and restitch using the same holes and suitab...
