Stillwater Soft hackles
I love to fish lakes, reservoirs and such. With the abundant snow pack in the Northern Rockies we still have high water flows that make it difficult to wade and nearly impossible for me to safely wade. So back to the stillwater. I usually fish for trout and have found a few callibaetis patterns I li...

Re: Pearsall's Thread
So, Jimmy, what are the replacements available? Is Hareline going to step up to the plate and have the line continue or have a mill maintain a supply of an alternative? It sounds very similar to the pharmaceutical industry. There is a small but loyal market for a product that doesn't internally comp...

Re: Natural Black/Bronze Hen
Scan.jpeg Hank, As you and I are children of the 60's I think I might understand your reference to "post-op" medications. I am most appreciative of the science and medicine behind pain relief or joint replacement surgery would not be possible. However, in rereading the article, here from ...

Re: Natural Black/Bronze Hen
Hank, the second one. Also an article in Fly Fishing Northwest. The article called for black/bronze hen for hackle. The other posts just indicate black hen. I was wondering about the difference, if any. I arrived home after my slip and fall with scabbed and bruised knees, hip and ego. The hardest pa...

Re: Natural Black/Bronze Hen
I purchased a natural black versus a dyed black hen. I am still confused as to the term "black/bronze". It that a color or a combination of black with a bronze tip. UC Steve writes about using black/bronze on Swedish fly tied from a turkey feather tip. I couldn't see from the photo differe...

Natural Black/Bronze Hen
What does Natural Black/Bronze Hen refer to? Black I understand, Bronze less so. The combination really stumps me.Teach a old dog a new vocabulary.

Recommended Fly Tying Materials
A birthday is coming up and I have been asked to make a list of tying materials I would like to have From this varied, wise and experienced group I ask: if you could recommend some standard tying supplies for soft hackles, what would they be? Give me an idea up to 5 per item of material you would re...

Re: Getting the Hackle Length Correct
I see from Nemes' book that fly tying is an art. If it were science there might have been measurements on the X and Y axis of the chart of feathers.
