Another thing that I've used for mysis eyes that works is .020 mono, burned gently at the ends. Also, a small hunk of .020 lead with black paint applied to the ends.

Re: Wulff TT, SA Heritage and 406 Fly Lines

Lots of very good reviews in a lot of different places for the 406 lines. One of their DTs is #1 on my list next time I need to replace a line. Recently, Craig Matthews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone, had some very positive commentary on them in his weekly newsletter. Interesting as...

Re: Salmonfly Nymph

It's also worked for me in the Midwest as a hellgrammite imitation on a #4. I don't tie it any smaller than 8. Years back it was absolutely deadly for me, working small pockets along the west bank of the Henry's Fork just below Box Canyon. Ya feel a little goofy sight fishing with a weighted size 4,...

Re: Salmonfly Nymph

Here's a siimple one that has worked well for me in the Yellowstone area for almost 40 years. I usually use a Mustad 79580 (The pictured fly is on a Jacklin barbless streamer hook #4) that is bent in the middle and has an underbody of lead or lead substitute. Nothing but black goose biots in the tai...

Re: Hendrickson Flymph

No, William and I were fishing Yellow Breeches here in Pennsylvania last weekend and these guys were everywhere. Usually they're a size 14 but this year they we're a robust 12! Pretty big Hendrickson. I was going to make that observation, but I'm glad you made it first. It's a great design and beau...

Re: Tying Quirks.......

Eric - Can you post a picture of your custom "hook getter". I magnetized the tip of my tying scissors, for the same purpose. My tying scissors are always in my hand while tying. When I need a hook, from one of the little bags, I simply poke the end of my scissors down in to the bag and pu...

Re: Tying Quirks.......

That Ott Lite shown is the floor model with goosenecks for both the light and the 3X magnifier. It was a "can't pass it up" deal at JoAnn Fabrics where if you bought the floor model for $119.. you got a clamp on model with magnifier for free. So having two, like the granite base, the floor...

Re: Tying Quirks.......

Dunno if this all qualifies as quirks, but it does make stuff convenient. The vise base is a slab of granite from thegranitefly.com. I have two: one for home here in TX and one at our cabin in Idaho. Great stuff. The vise will NOT move. And, I think they're kinda neat looking. I've modified both wit...

Re: Iso's from the Den

Here's an Isonychia nymph that I worked out several (about 40) years ago after watching the naturals ( bicolor harvested from the Beaverkill) swim around in a gallon mayonaise jar for a while. The features that were most prominent to my eye were the light colored stripe on the dorsal side and the ve...

Re: Fishing Drake Soft-Hackles

William, the green drake hatch on the Henry's Fork and the brown drake hatch each year bring up the largest fish in the river as well as the most anglers. The fishing can be insanely simple, and it can be absolutely maddening. I developed the drake flymph for a very unusual and somewhat obtuse reaso...
