Re: Leader length ...?
Has anyone some experience with a wee bitty rod ????? hank I have a little Orvis 5'9" bamboo that I fish occasionally. It's a 4 weight that will handle a 9' leader and small flies quite comfortably. Anything longer than 9' seems a bit of a chore to turn over even on short casts. The little rod...

Re: PMD emergers
I like the pattern in my avatar. It generally works, but a CDC Comparadun seems to be a magic fly fished as an emerger for both the PMDs and the BWOs. FWIW, the most recent taxonomic reclassification makes one of the western PMD species (infrequens) a sub-species of the eastern sulphur (dorothea). M...

Re: Sulphur-PMD Flymph
Great looking pattern Eric. I do not have access to Valley Quail. Any suggestion what might make a good substitute? To be honest, I use whatever seems will be a good match coming out of the "softhackle" drawer. I've used grizzly hen, medium dun hen, woodcock all with equally good results....

Re: Sulphur-PMD Flymph
Eric - Beautiful fly. Bill gave me a few flies that looked similar to yours. That worked like a charm on Spring Creek. Love the Vally quail hackle. Great idea. Thanks, Ray. I grabbed that quail cape from a "sale" barrel in Mike Lawson's shop on the Henry's Fork several years ago. It has t...

Re: Sulphur-PMD Flymph
This one is still my favorite, both for sulphurs and for PMDs. It's pretty self-explanatory, but for the record Hook: 3906B 16 Thread: Benecchi 12/0 olive Tail: Woodduck flank fibers Abdomen: Pheasant tail Rib: Fine copper wire Thorax: Spirit River "Fine & Dry" PMD dubbing Hackle: Vall...

Re: Nymphs
Thanks, Eric. I appreciate your insight. We have a thread started in the Tying Section from long ago (months) that I started to post patterns relevant to out gathering. I haven't visited that post, nor has anyone, in a long time, but anyone with suggestions would be a big help to fill it in. Adding...

Re: Madison River Hatches - Mid to Late June
Well, here's one to bump the thread to a more current level. This has been my "go-to" Madison River fly for almost 40 years. I first tied it in a motel room in Provo, Utah, in 1976 before my inaugural trip to the Yellowstone area. Except for a few minor tweaks, it is now as it was then. I ...

Re: Nymphs
Eric, those little numbers are very elegant and no doubt make just the right impression. Kudos on the beauty of these at this scale. Are these specifically a late season pattern in your area or are they needed in early season as well? w I use them for the late season Pseudocloeon hatch, but in an a...

Re: Nymphs
Nice. I have been using these, fished dry, for the tiny PMDs that appear on the Henry's Fork in the late season, and the results have been pretty satisfying. I "think" these are 20s, but they could be 22s. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r277/ewpeper/emerger_0002_zps2a1c16ea.jpg Eric
