Old Partridge Hooks

Although I’ve had them for quite awhile, probably 10 -15 years, I kinda had them in a storage box that I seldom open. A couple days ago, I pulled out that hook storage box and took out some of the OLD Partridge Captain Hamilton L2A dry / wet fly hooks to dress a few Golden Plover hackled flies. I’ve...

The Black Magic is one of my favorite spidedrs to tie and fish. Many years ago, a friend in the UK sent me some info on North Country Spiders and the Black Magic was mentioned in the info. Do you have my address? Seriously, very nice fly. I'm gonna have to try to imitate it!

Re: silk thread question

I’ve used YLI 100 silk threads on most of the 30+ bamboo fly rods that I’ve assembled in the past 20+ years. On only a few, have I used Pearsall Naples or another silk. With the demise of Gossamer, most of my flies are now done with YLI 100 silks.

Out of curiosity, what did you use for the body sub? I’m always looking for options.

In the Old Masters that I've tied, I used either a light Canada goose herl or from a Blue Eared Pheasant.
