Re: Purple Midge
Has anyone fished the purple? Vicki Vicki, Besides numerous purple steelhead flies, I have fished a #16 Snipe & Purple for a number of years and my parachute dry fly box contains Carlson's Purple Haze, an excellent fly. Another purple from the past that I fish, Moorehen & Purple http://www....

Re: Turton's Spiders
As I have said to Donald, I am honored to be included on his marvelous site. I have long admired his artistic labor of love for the wealth of information and beautiful presentations that he provides for the rest of us interested in Flymphs, Soft Hackles... and their history. Thank You Donald! Roadkill

Re: Black and Claret Soft Hackle
Incredible fly but the real kudos go to setting up the background to make the photo as stunning a piece of artwork as the fly.

Re: Purple Midge
DNicolson I got it out of the Turton chapter on The Angler's Manual in Nemes Two Centuries of Soft-Hackled Flies earlier today when I was looking for a reference on split thread tying for Hans. This was a fly on my to do list to tie and fish so I started making some. I don't know the way the list of...

Re: Split thread technique - looking for early references
You are most welcome Hans!
I know I recently read an old reference to splitting silk floss for a dubbed body in an old Classic Salmon fly but I can't remember where.

Re: Split thread technique - looking for early references
Hans, The technique may be at least 2 centuries old. If you can find a copy of George Scotcher's The Fly Fisher's Legacy and confirm what I found in Sylvester Nemes book Two Centuries of Soft Hackled Flies under the Blue Dun fly. For the body use the under blue dun fur of a fox...; tie on with split...
