I have been using UV fluorescent for decades on steelhead flies and even take a UV flashlight into shops to test materials to see if they actually are UV absorbing. I am still skeptical about UV2 reflective.

Sparkle duns and x-caddis both made me a believer in synthetic shucks added to other patterns.!
Sometimes Bling is the Thing! You can snip off the emerger shuck if you want a dry dun or caddis. The one fly contests made me a follower of convertible flies.

I use smooth jaw pliers and insert the hook into the front of the jaws not the side. The force closes down first on the barb applying pressure toward the bend. Jewelry making pliers from craft stores are my favorite.
