Re: Single and Multi-Fly Displays

I have seen a display stand similar to the one in your photograph where the tubes are replaced with the kind of sprung loaded plastic "hackle pliers" you see Hans use in his videos. I read somewhere you can buy bulk smaller versions of these at Radioshack? I'm not so sure about bulk howev...

Re: Shortened Partridge and Green

Really Dough when one considers the magnification it's pretty incredible what the tyer's here are able to achieve. Now back to trying to salvage some of these oversized partridge hackle.

Re: Favorite Hooks

Kelly as far as difference the R72 if I have this right the R designates a round bend the 7 refers to wire size which may be close to the 3906B. the 2 is I believe 2 extra long. I'm not sure just how the two hooks would compare in length but the bend would be different as I'm sure the 3906B has a di...

Re: Picric and Black

Perhaps this would be a good time to insert an article Hans was kind enough to share with us back in 2010 regarding the use of picric acid. I'm sure this site has picked up some new member's since then that may or may not be aware of the precautions that should be taken with this material. http://gl...

Re: M'ole Grey Hen

I'm sure I have tried the technique on just a few flies some time ago. I'm not sure much more is accomplished than trapping the fibers between the initial base of silk and the intended rib. I have to say the fly sure looks nice though Tom. Now give it a swim and see what the fish think. :) Regards, ...

Re: Dark Olive Nymph

In reading of your problems with seal and bear fur I am wondering if soaking these materials in a fabric softener wouldn't make them more manageable for you. Just a thought as I have read that this makes squirrel tail and kip (calf tail) more manageable when tying wings with these materials down. Re...

Re: Leisenring on Stewart

Hank I can only guess the different color that both you and I are seeing is the barbs closest to the butt end of the hackle used. In this case quite possibly a starling feather where many will drift from black to what I would call ash or light gray. The gape you mention I would think was simply a vo...

Re: Iron Dun Spider

Nice ties both Bill. The Iron Dun Spider and the Jackdaw and Black Mole. Viewing this style tie takes me to smooth little glides on spring creek's and brown trout sipping tiny flies stuck in the film. A fun tie and even more fun fishing these little bugger's.
