Re: Struggling
This is a bit of a fun question... Hooks: #14 Hanak 200 (wet), #14 Hanak 130 (Dry) Hackle: Hungarian Partridge; Ginger Hen Dubbing: Natural Hare/Squirrel; holo-dubbing (rust) Thread: Sand, White or Pale Yellow 12/0; Olive 12/0 I could cover a lot of flies with this combination. Throw in a bit of dry...

Re: Tongue-tied and twisted...
Neat technique. It would probably work best on almost "bodiless" spiders thereby avoiding the extra bulk of a heavier underbody.

Re: Working with floss
Sort of on topic... If you really want to punch up the colour, create an underbody from a single strand of silver flashabou. When you cover it with a single strand of unwound marabou floss, it absolutely looks like a jewel in the water. This trick can also be used with rayon flosses (like the Uni an...

Re: fly rod length
Cool site Aaron ;) .......but trying to click on any of the recommended sites up on the right there (including this one), did me no good. Server could not find anything. :? I just checked all the links. Two didn't work... The Nemes interview and the link to this site. I deleted the Nemes link (it's...

Re: fly rod length
Sorry, they originally released it as Type II. I didn't realize they'd produced it in a Type III after. Mmmm... this opens new possibilities.Roadkill wrote:Aaron,
I just checked my 490 LLB and it has Graphite III stamped on the blank.

Re: fly rod length
You gentlemen who are already using 10-foot light-line rods need to join the Tenkara Nation, post haste: once you realize that that $70 flyline is really your enemy, your journey to the Dark Side will be complete. ...Ummm... already there... http://streamtime.blogspot.com/search/label/Tenkara...

Re: fly rod length
A close second is a Sage VPS-Light 389 Man I love that rod. My favourite all round dry fly stick to be sure. Just unbelievable to cast--mind you I've never fished the original LL. Because I've started competitive fishing, I've switched over to longer and longer light weight rods mostly for their ny...

Re: 3 Tenkara flies
Thanks again. #1. The pheasant tail barbs are tied forward over the eye and then brought up and back using the thread head. The only trick here is getting the orientation of the fibres correct so that you end up with the swept back effect. A gentle thumbnail stroke helps. This is tied on a #12 Musta...

Re: 3 Tenkara flies
Great ties--I especially like the first: hen hackle or Chinese rooster? :) Thanks everyone. Yes, it is Chinese rooster. The barbs are not all that hard--I've got genetic hen that's stiffer. I've been using this particular cape for a few years. It's close enough for me to call it a "soft hackle...

I tied these up for a local publication, but they didn't make the cut due to space restrictions. Thought you might like to see them...
