Re: Horsehair Overcoat
Also, the Siberian Stallion hair should be taken from the tail when the horse is "ready for action". It's a hormonal thing I believe, for the best quality hair. I have read this in a couple places, can't remember where but I am sure it is Darrel Martin's book. I was fortunate to take his c...

Re: Hare and Antron flymph
Outstanding as always, but I have a question for you: do you have a rhyme or reason when you pick out your tailing material, or do you just go where the spirit moves you? :) Hare's mask seems to be an inspired choice here--I'm thinking that it will hold up better in heavy current than, say, a few f...

Re: "Stoned" fly
The fibers do get quite translucent when wet, similar to raffia but they are not very soft. If you have ever tried to put deer hair in a dubbing loop, this is about the same.

Re: "Stoned" fly
Thanks all for the comments. I almost always add purple somewhere to my stone fly patterns. One of those "good luck" charms for me.

Re: Beginner Resources ?
Welcome MrGando, Any of the books mentioned will be a good help to get started, for fishing technique I would also include Ray Bergman's Trout . It doesn't concentrate on wingless but wets in general and is full of great info and an enjoyable read. But, if I am not mistaken, you were referring to wh...

Re: Rusty dun flymph
Thanks gentlemen. Mark - I like the hooks as well. Found a lot of them in great shape. Ray - Yes the hackle I got from JimsCo. It is listed as a Herbert Miner genetic hen cape (rusty natural dun). The tips show a little lighter in the photo as they capture the light well. Probably why they they look...

"Stoned" fly
I was in a swap where we received a material and had to devise a pattern using the material. I received some hemp twine. I unraveled a bit of the twine, cut it up, and used it in a dubbing loop to build the body of this stonefly flymph. Hook: Mustad Limerick wet #10 Thread: purple gossamer tying sil...
