Tiny soft hackles ala Syl Nemes

Hi All; I'm reading Sylvia Nemes' book "The soft hackle fly and tiny soft hackles" and he describes another method to use larger feathers to the tiny flies. "Build the body of your fly and create a bump of thread just behind hook eye, tie over length barbs cut from the stem pointing b...

Re: March Brown Flymph

Hi Bill;

That's a gorgeous tie!

That's Cree? Maybe the flash muted the colors but I thought cree was three colors on one barb?

What size & type hook did you use?

Re: Gudebrod 00 & 0 silk thread

Hi Hank;

I think that's part of it but, I also think it's a darker shade to boot! I'm not even totally convinced it's wax. I also bought it to use for rod wraps but will have to test and see if it will take varnish.

Re: Gudebrod 00 & 0 silk thread

Hi all; Recieved my vintage Gudebrod silk 00 thread yesterdy, it came on 925 yard spools so wound some on thread bobbins using the Wife's sewing machine. It appears that this thread is heavily waxed, left residue on the sewing machine. It's slightly thicker than Pearsalls and the orange is much dark...

Re: Abyss

Hi Carl;

I immediately thought of the movie "the abyss" thus being blue made sense for me.

Now, to plagiarize and copy in a similar silk color.

Re: Abyss

Mighty Purity!

So, is this pattern for show or go? Curious since blue works well for bass and wondered if trout like blue too?

Re: Gudebrod 00 & 0 silk thread

Hi Bill;

Thanks, sounds like 00 would work well on smaller hooks. I purchased a couple spools and can't wait to try it out.
