Ray - Now they are thinking it might have been a lightening strike on a flock or a freak, concentrated hailstorm. All were Blackbirds. I'm thinking of chartering a bus for tyers to get out there before they pick them all up. Anybody in? :)

On the English style hackle pliers, I put a short piece of shrink tubing on each jaw, and leave about 1/8 to 3/16" stick out past the end of the jaws. It grips really well, and leaving a bit sticking out prevents the more delicate hackle stems from making too sharp a bend and breaking. Another ...
