Whiting Farms new 4B's Hen Capes

Whiting has put out a new line of birds called 4Bs (bigger, better, bargain, birds). These birds are basically domestic barnyard birds that Tom Whiting has refined a bit. They haven't been bred for super small, super stiff hackle. Just your regular domestic chickens that have been selected for nice c...

Re: Why Use Silk Thread?

Greenwell summed up my thoughts on silk thread pretty well. I use mostly silk for my fishing flies. I do however use uni 3/0, 6/0 and 8/0 as well as Danville pre waxed 6/0. Montana Fly Co. also has some nice threads. The point about the synthetic thread stretching is a valid. I have found that I hav...

Re: Leisenring's Orphan Nymphs

Some really nice ties folks ! I would suggest looking at the small brown hackle that are found on partridge wing coverts for the March Brown nymph. I like the feathers that are on the edge of the wings and just below. And for what it's worth the tails on both the eastern and western North American M...

Re: Genetic Hen Necks

I happen to have about 10 pure brown Hebert Hen Capes. These are really tough to get. They were culled out of about 70 that they had. Dubbin, I usually have 5 or more of each color of hackle in stock. Just call or email me with specific requests, once I know exactly what you are looking for I can al...

Re: Richardson's silk thread

Not sure what size thread that you have. Most of these threads fall in the 3/0 range or size c. Great for making thread bodies, not so great for tying because of the thickness. I have many of these spools and some are from the late 1800's and early 1900's that are still in great condition. Richardso...

Re: Wax on, Wax Off

Find the cheapest no name brand of toilet bowl wax and you'll find wax that is really close to Wonder wax.
