Re: Wool
I would disagree, at least with a lot of traditional NZ patterns. A lot of our historic patterns, especially larger wet flies and lures (streamers to most here) call for bodies of wool- usually wool yarn wrapped as a strand of yarn around the hook shank rather than dubbed. Most of the Matuku, Pukek...

Wool
I see various people using carded wool stock on some flies. Obviously from a tiers viewpoint, its simple to use, wrap and go. From a human perspective, it produces very pleasing flies to our eyes. It however perplexes me a little. Wool is a material that has been readily available for a very long ti...

Re: Blissful Ignorance.
Thanks for sharing that Dubbn, sorta confirms my suspicion that you are a natural angler, learning from the river. A friend of mine who is a fine fine angler has a very good mantra, "You have gotta give em what they want, where they want it" It is not unusual for him when the fishing is di...

Re: Don't shoot the messenger
Wayne, you are way off the mark. I marvel at the pictures of the rivers you fish, the trout porn too, is nice occasionally. It may surprise you to know that one of the most enjoyable reads I have had on this forum was a small post you made regarding a successful day when u fished an orange muskrat. ...

Re: Don't shoot the messenger
Fear of posting fear of been seen as a novice etc i believe to be largely to blame. Even u William say it in your post. If that is true it is a poor reflection on us all that such fear could Exist within such a tight community. Uk fly dressing was a very similar site this but it soon declined when 9...

Re: Don't shoot the messenger
So to start the ball rolling as it were and I really do hope that others join in the conversation. I enjoy fishing many different methods from deep nymphing to tiny dries and have over the past 30 years or so hunted salmon, sea trout brown lake trout, stocked rainbows and now its wild browns on a ri...

Don't shoot the messenger
Last week I noticed that this section is the least used and but for Dubbns excellent mouth watering, nerve tingling, jealousy evoking posts it may as well not exist. I can, but admire the extraordinary skills displayed in tying section and fly dressings sections and the extraordinary passion that go...
