Re: Leisenring's Tups Nymph

Very interesting. The plot thickens (as it always does when one digs down into something). Thanks for the reference to the earlier Tups thread, Ray -- I had somehow missed that! It was quite illuminating, and so many interesting flies. I also found your post on Sparse Grey Matter, which was wonderfu...

Re: Leisenring's Tups Nymph

Only the tying silk would be "Well waxed" I don't think the body is. I think this is true as well: While I don't have the original to access, I have found this statement by Mark Libertone on a different forum (not sure if I'm allowed to cite the source or provide a link) "Leisenring ...

I thought that photographing Pearsall's primrose under the same circumstances might be interesting for comparison's sake:

Leisenring's Tups Nymph

Howdy, All... For the Tenth Anniversary IBF Swap, I've decided to tie Leisenring's Tups Flymph. I figured I'd start up a thread to follow along my thought and decision-making process, partially because I was hoping for some advice, and partially because I want to play with a new tripod I've just bou...

Re: Tutorial - Buttercream Soft Hackle (Sulphur Imitation)

Great fly and SBS Ray --

But the most useful thing was the tip about folding yarn to get repeatable ratios. Nicely done.

PS Looking out the window today to sun and (still several feet of) melting snow, I can almost imagine a time when we might be able to use that fly!

Re: Link - T.E. Pritt North Country Flies - Henrik Thomsen (DK)

Very cool! Interesting shortcut on the bimini-leader-type gut sub. And most useful in thinking about building a traditional fly. My only experience in using gut or gut sub is in steelhead flies, where it is usual to double over the gut sub (that is, to fold over and tie in the butt end in a second l...

Re: Framing Flies - DIY Craft Project

Ray, Wonderful stuff! Thanks for posting this. I have made a few attempts at framing flies as well -- with similar frames, it seems. In the spirit of sharing (and sponsored by a day off and frigid temperatures keeping me inside), I thought I might share some successes and failures. After a few faile...
