One use I know of is for a tenkara fly. The feather used is the alula (kenbane in Japanese).

Thanks for the tip Lou! I found it on eBay for $6.99 plus free shipping. Some of the best angling authors are Scottish. I own quite a few of their books plus digital versions from InternetArchive.

Ron, I believe you are correct about the hooks but none of the pictures show them. BTW, I borrowed the photos off of FB.
