Dictionary of Trout Flies

This book was written by A Courtney Williams in 1948 and contains a wealth of information about all the flies listed. It also covers Sea Trout and Grayling flies. If you decide to buy a copy try and get the sixth edition (paperback) 1986 as there is an additional section on modern flies (34 years ag...

Re: Borderer

David, Thanks for the inspiration!! The moment I saw it made me think of Iron Blue variations with a simple change of feather! ;) I can't wait to fish these next year. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50621431718_d9fdd13ab4_z.jpg IMGP1073 by William Lovelace , on Flickr Mine have a body of muskr...

Borderer

This is a fly which can be fished wet or dry, although I have always fished it wet. I first fished this fly about 1966 when I used to fish the Welsh Dee and river Vrnwy in North Wales. It was that good I never had it off my cast! It is one of six flies created by author Walter Gallichan (1861-1946)....

Re: I've Been Busy Lately

Very impressed. You are doing what I would like to do but never quite get round to doing it. I am looking forward to seeing the next phase - happy tying.

Re: Henthorne Purple

davidriley - Very nice work - I quite like the patterns you have posted thus far. Would you mind posting the mallard feather details? Possibly a photo of the skin, showing the location where you plucked the feather. I too thought it was waterhen.... Welcome to the forum ! Dana The feathers are the ...

Dai’s Greenwell

This is a fly which has its origins in Wales. It is one of Dai Lewis’s of Tregaron flies. Dai was born in 1880 and fished the Teifi all his life making a living from fly dressing. I was given the dressing for the fly in 1969 by Ieuan D Owen, who was taught to fly fish by Dai. Ieuan wrote a book abou...
