Re: Attempted Partridge & Orange
Jeff, Yes, on that one I did strip one side of the partridge. I tried it both ways but stripping one side gave a better result, the others seem a bit too full. Carl, I understand the colour changes with silk, it's an important feature with rod wraps that change when varnished. Next time I order some...

Re: Attempted Partridge & Orange
Thanks Jeff. I'm not overly keen on Danvilles but it's the only orange I have. But having said that I have some YLI silk in 100wt - the stuff I use for wrapping rod guides - which is more like a round cord in profile but not in orange. Anyway, I'm sure the fish don't notice. The hackle was an intere...

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b317/plutrach/Flies/6-IMG_1406_zps3b6a5dfd.jpg I didn't have the requisite orange Pearsalls silk but used a Danvilles I had on hand which is a bit redder, a #16 hook - I think it's Mustad R70 - my youngest daughter has taken a liking to hook boxes and they go missi...

Re: PFS (Pheasant Feather Swimmy)
Nice fly.
Is that feather sometimes referred to as a "church window"? I've got a few of those and I've not known what to use them for....until now!
Cheers

Re: great day fishing spiders
I read an article by Phillip Weigall - an Australian fly fishing journalist - a long time ago that had an influence on my fishing. In the article he made the statement that fish in riffles are generally more catchable than fish in pools on account of their intention to feed in that part of the river...

Re: great day fishing spiders
Relax fellas, it was my poor attempt at humour. Thanks John P, you understood my intent. I really appreciate seeing photos taken by others of water, fish, insects, etc. Now that some of you have mentioned it, I too make conscious choices not to photograph. Sometimes photographing can get in t...

Re: great day fishing spiders
what do they say Jeff...... "no photo no fish"
Taylor, fish in shallow riffles are feeding and they usually mean business. They leave the security of deeper water to take advantage of feeding where the aquatic life is most abundant.
