Re: Generic Soft Hackle - Grey Pearsalls (9A)

Ron, thanks and good luck of the fly tying event. It sounds like a great gathering on a winter's day. Please let us know how it goes. Fishnkilts, I know what you mean and I have seen plenty of pictures as viewed from the front of the fly but not as viewed from the back of a fly. Not sure why I took ...

Generic Soft Hackle - Grey Pearsalls (9A)

Hi all, I decided to tie some soft hackle flies with the Grey Pearsalls that I found in Tokyo. The shop owner gave me a few partridge feathers and for dubbing I used some material from my sweater. The things you do when you really want to tie. Very simple fly that hopefully works for me in the next ...

Re: Mini Me Coachman and Coviello's emerger

Hi Ray, I first went to Canada to fish the Dean River and was fortunate to get this opportunity. What an amazing fishery and area to visit. I did manage to catch a few steelhead, which was a thrilling experience. From there, I went to Japan, which was part work and three days exploring Hokkaido and ...

Re: Mini Me Coachman and Coviello's emerger

Ron,

Great report and I am glad the coachman variant worked for you. I have been traveling quite a bit over the last few months and now that I am home, I will catch up with all the posts I missed. Thanks again for a great report.

I am half-way through this book already! It is a great read and I highly recommend it. If you are remotely interested in spey casting for trout, this book is a must have.

Re: Newriverspey's Coachman Variant redux

Ron,

The changes you made are subtle but it looks great! Let me know what you conjure up when you swing that fly, hopefully soon!

Re: Pine Rug Sculpin

Ron,

Yes, those are both inverting patterns and I use a #8 orientsun streamer hook and a 4.0 mm tungsten inverting bead. When mountain stream fishing, I often go to the dark side.

Re: Pine Rug Sculpin

Here are two sculpin patterns that I use made of pine squirrel. Sometimes they want rubber legs and sometimes they don't. Simple but they work well for me.
