Re: Preparing Bird Skins

Borax is what I use for drying skins also. One doesn't have to worry about salt getting on things that it shouldn't and creating rust. I saved two duck skins from the opener, a gadwall for the barred feathers and a coot for the long webby feathers. I had another hunter give me a couple of breasted o...

Re: dubbing block bodies

Bill, your questions are ones that others of us keep asking, even after using the Clark block for a while. William's information is reliable as usual. The half-inch marks are helpful for sizing to hooks, as he says. Old Hat, where did you get the giant penny? ;) One minor point that I have changed ...

dubbing block bodies

Last week a pair of dubbing blocks from William arrived and today was the day to experiment with them. I made a light colored body as that's the color flies that were hatching a week ago when I was out. While making the body I had the thought "how small of a hook can these be used on without ha...

Re: Hackle Shortening SBS

This should be bookmarked. I've seen it before (when I didn't need it). But when I needed it I could never find out where I'd seen it and had to mickey mouse what I thought I saw. I never did get it exactly correct and the hackle showed that.

This is nice!!!!

Re: Aussie Bobwhite

Allen hooks a year ago had issues. The later Allen hooks were better and I haven't found any issues yet. But the problems with my earlier buys keep cropping up. I found one yesterday with a partially formed eye.

Re: W.C. Stewart's Definition of Upstream Fishing?

OH, I wish someone would have told me about short casts upstream in the mid-70's. The first time I tried wets upstream I was doing normal cast distances and discovering one had a hit was kinda by intuition. I didn't know or feel I had a strike, just that something was not right.

Re: Dark and Dun Flymph

Its a Mustad 3121. A lot heavier than the 94842's and with a limerick bend. I haven't modified it in any way. You are right Jeff they work just fine after a little hand sharpening. They catch good, the release is a bit more difficult. I have a lot of other ones which are very similar but most have ...
