Re: Wingless wet or not?

Not a wingless wet. The stiff profile of tail fibers, the long profile of the body and the parachute design in the "wing" all say dry or topwater emerger. Whether sunk or not, intended purpose and tying technique does not say "wingless wet" to me at all. However, cdc is a good wi...

Re: Spanish Wets

Thanks Mike, I always appreciate the added knowledge you can bring to the table on these posts. I fished these quite a few times this year and found them very productive. I uses different tactics than I would normally with soft hackles. I utilized them when I needed to get a little deeper than norma...

Re: Quill Spiders...

Very nice William. We have a winter stone hatch here around February and I know that little black one in about a size #12 would do great for that hatch. Most people I know fish this hatch with dries or weighted nymphs but I have always done much better with flymph style flies.

This is one of my favorites of yours Ray. I have a small wrap of velcro around the end of my bodkin that I use specifically for that purpose.

Welcome Niklas, beautiful Needle with your intro. I look forward to your participation in the site. My vintage is not much older than your own and sounds like we are nearly in the same pub. :D

Re: You can always learn

I did an ostrich herl body in the last swap. For softies, I like to use 3 herls and tie them in by the tips with the tips extending out as a tail. I twist the herl in a rope and then wrap, then counter wrap with a rib of some type, floss or wire. Most often I will use a combination of colors to get ...

Re: Munchy

Great looking fly Hans. The 102Y is one of my favorite softy hooks for fishing. I love the looks of the fly but to be honest I have never had much luck with the really soft full hackled flies. For steelhead yes, but not for trout. Do you fish it any different in particular than others.
