Re: Grounds for Expulsion
Thanks for those additions William & Hans. I think each of those patterns would make a great beetle imitation. They've given me a couple more ideas to play with, in addition to a few more patterns to add to my fly box. Heresy or not, I am enjoying this conversation.

Jeff - You comment about the wings is interesting. I have a neat technique for making raffia wings. They might look cool on this pattern.
Thanks Scott. The heavier hook is a good suggestion, worth a try anyways.

Re: Grounds for Expulsion
I just tyed a version with a black CDC body. Out of curiosity, I got a dish of water to see how the pattern looked floating on the surface. Interestingly, the CDC version kept flipping over when it hit the surface of the water (foam side down/CDC belly side up/hook point above the surface of the wat...

Re: Grounds for Expulsion
Thanks Wayne. I was not familiar with that pattern, but I just looked it up. Nice and simple. I will give them a try, based on your recommendation. Thanks mate.

Re: Grounds for Expulsion
Bill - That's funny! Tenkara style Japanese beetle. I love that idea. ;) William - I am a big fan of Harrison Steeves's foam patterns. I have had some amazing 30+ fish days using his terrestrial (and extra-terrestrial) style patterns. I did a tying demonstration last weekend and was showing so...

Re: Beyond fly fishing... nothing at all
Amazing! At first I was horrified to think he has casting real live gold fish in resin. When I realized they were hand painted, I was blown away. Simply amazing illusion. I loved how the painting suddenly looks three dimensional as soon as the resin is poured over them. Thanks for sharing this.

Re: Grounds for Expulsion
Mark - I figured you were posting to "show me to the door". ( sheepish grin ) Hank - It's just a piece of lint left over from when I cut the foam. I laid the foam down on my tying desk and it must have stuck to it. Argh. I should have made up some story about it being the fuzz along the ba...
