Wayneb, The recipe in newer books usually lists the body material as "ash or grey" however the older listings just say "ash". So I suppose there is some interpretation there. Others with more knowledge of this color may be able to better answer the question. My idea of ash is a g...

Glad you like them. I too like the way the pictures turned out however it wasn't any purposeful attempt, only going outside to use natural light. Shouldn't be a problem to repeat the procedure though GlassJet, I will just have to save all my photographing until next year at the same date and time so...

My best rendition of a pattern I've seen mentioned quite a few times in books the "Old Master" The original called for a woodcock hackle, but since I don't have any woodcock I used a sharptail grouse rump feather which I think might be a pretty good substitute. You guys that tie with woodc...

I've got lots of rusty iron... no sumac, but huckleberries and blue elderberries. I'm going to have to try that one on a few feathers. It's too good not to try.

I'm looking for ideas and/or recipes for dying partridge feathers a dun color. I haven't done any dying of real extent before, only played with the process a bit.
