Re: Black Magic North Country Spider (Robert Smith Video Tutorial)

Could it be that peacock herl a century ago was sometimes of poor quality, allowing some of wire to show through? That bit of color near the head is similar to the non-hackled "cruncher' patterns I see tied by Davie McPhail.

Re: Hare's Ear Variation

The trout will love it. On some of my wets, I use 12/0 or thinner red thread and leave a small red thread tag. I touch the tag with a very small amount of head cement. Fishing the same fly with and without a red tag on the same day or on the same cast reveals that the red tag does catch better, at l...

True, Mike62, and that collision of terms saved me the top section of my new rod on some future day.

Re: Fenwick Streamflex Plus 10' 3 wt and a cast of two wets

Bob, I'll look for the same effect with wild fish. How far apart do you space your flies when fishing wets over wild trout? I space the flies approximately two feet apart, sometimes up to 3 feet fishing over stocked trout. What is your overall leader length? I think the Streamflex tapers, both the o...

Lou, That's a truly inspired idea, converting the rod into a tenkara rod. I might try that with the rod in the 11' configuration. Well done! So I actually bought several rods, including 10' and 11' wet fly rods and a tenkara rod!

Toasty, all the Streamflex Plus rods have an extra piece, most with an extension of 6". The Streamflex Plus 10' 3 wt has the 12" extension. I don't think this applies to the Streamflex rods, just the Streamflex Plus rods, but I'm no expert on the Gray's rods now branded as Fenwick.

I'm dying to see if they take the flymph at the mid dropper or the point fly. I can't wait to get out again.

Fenwick Streamflex Plus 10' 3 wt and a cast of two wets

Ordered a Fenwick Streamflex Plus 10' 3 wt convertible to 11' with a section stashed in the handle. First outing today was great fun using a 3wt Rio SHS 3D F/H/I. A cast of two wets, a #10 palmered winged wet top dropper (Wickhams Fancy) and a #16 soft hackle (black & silver spider) point fly di...

Re: Swiss CDC clamp initial uses

Hank and Ray, thank you for the encouragement. Posting flies on the Flymph Forum seems like "bringing coal to Newcastle" since I see such exquisite work here by folks so accomplished that I am often struck with awe at the artistry on display. It's inspiring and daunting at the same time. I...
