Re: The August Brown.

That's a very nicely dressed fly. I like it a lot. Did you lacquer the tips of the wings so they would hold their shape?

Re: Honey Dun like Beer?

I have a couple of Hebert Minor hen necks in all three shades, plus a few in between. One of my favorite colors of hen. As far as picking a favorite of the three, I'll go with the middle one. Maybe it's a question of lighting, as the light list fly seems too bright for me and the very dark list, a b...

Re: My attempt at Stewarts Black Spider

Thanks friends for your comments! You all sure know how to humble a person. I don't tie many flies, about fifteen I'd say, and that's including dries and nymphs. But now being a member here, I have seen some flies tied by some of you that I am really intrigued on learning how to tie, so maybe I'll ...

Re: My attempt at Stewarts Black Spider

Lovely wee spider. Looks about like mine, the messier the better. Very effective fly. Like Stewart, I always have several in my box, sizes 12 to 14. It's a favorite.

Re: PEARSALL'S IS BACK!!!

I believe what Mike Hogue is carrying is the Morus silks. I know he and Gunpowder are going to be among the distributors in the US. I tried a couple spools of the Morus and it's pretty nice to tie with. I put the Morus spools next to Pearsall's spools of the same color and they were, to my eye, iden...

Re: Kimono/Pearsall coordinated numbers

Bobfly, I'm using the Wasatch Mini-Bobbins for silk thread. I borrow my wife's sewing machine to transfer silk to the smaller bobbins as well. I have about 20 of the mini-Bobbins, so I keep them loaded with silk colors I commonly use. I may have to try a couple for wire also.

Re: North Country the Freckled Dun,

Very nice, Tom. Knew it was you when I saw the hook. Your a bad influence, as I have laid in a supply of those sweet little hooks myself.

Ray, I'm pretty sure a Moorcock is the same bird as a Red Grouse, at least that's what Google said. It's a personal favorite of mine for tying.

Re: Starling source...

Aaron Ostoj often has some of good quality. About 2x the shop cost, you'll have to decide if worth it. He often has very nicely dyed options too and can custom dye for you. https://www.aaronmostojfeathers.com/store/p2020/English_Starling_Skins.html Thank you, Carl. I've been trying to think of his ...

Re: Starling source...

I used to get them from Cookshill, and once from Denny Conrad of Conranch Hackle. For me it's quicker to just get them from J. Stockard https://www.jsflyfishing.com/hareline-starling-skin . I've ordered both the Hareline and Nature's Spirit and have a hard time telling the difference. They're not Co...
