Re: Streamside Gear Survey

William, This is great stuff. My wife and I have been doing much the same thing here, but nothing quite ready to show yet. DIESNGAGING HOOK FROM FELT— As for the 100% wool felt and barbed hooks, there is a technique for disengaging the barbs. Fold the felt back so the hook is on the high point of th...

Re: Tups Indefensible

I have posted these before, but in the spirit of this thread, I have dusted off the images Hans, Thanks for this addition to the string. Not having seen the original post, I'm curious, why the "soaked" version? Perhaps it is a way to bring out the translucency that occurs when the body ma...

Re: Tups Indefensible

Thanks! The dark hackle may be a disastrous (indefensible) departure from the established recipe, but we'll see. Here is Leisenring's Tup's Nymph pattern that also includes a tail (a second Tup's recipe in the book omits the tail)— Hook:13, 14 Silk: Primrose yellow Hackle: Very small light-blue hen ...

Re: Tups Indefensible

Everybody, thanks for the encouragement. CB, your question about whether the "hunched" profile of the Klink hook ever mimics the posture of a natural is interesting. I plan to take a bunch of these in different sizes on both straight and curved hooks, and try them out. I have no idea what ...

Tups Indefensible

I like Hans's puns on classic fly names, so here's another one. If only my tying were more polished—but I'm practicing every day. I just got this dyed partridge skin and the Klinkhamer hooks today, and couldn't wait to try them out. Constructive criticism welcome. Hook: Daiichi 1167 (Klinkhamer) siz...

Re: Mossy Creek

Hans, your steady contributions of innovative fly dressings are one of the best things I have ever seen on the web.
Technical questions—is this a split thread dubbing?
And what is distinctive about Argentinian hare? Do you cut it into shorter lengths?

Re: Streamside Gear Survey

William, Those are interesting little wallets. Are they available commercially now? Your idea of the magnetic snap was also suggested by my wife, who uses them for the little handbags and clutches she designs and sews for a local craft shop. I was concerned about whether the magnets might harm a cel...

Re: Hackle Availability

I should probably stay out of this dispute, but I am compelled to say I agree with Jim. Fly fishing is subject to supply and demand, just like any other endeavor. We are accustomed to the extremely high prices that book dealers charge for rare, out-of-print editions, but don't accuse them of greed. ...
