Re: Daiichi Hooks - New stock

Hi guys, Been awhile since I've posted anything here, my apologies! I wanted to reach out and ask you guys about any noticeable quality issues on new stock Daiichi hooks. Finishing, tempering, etc... I've heard some things about the Daiichi brand in the US and quality going downhill. Would be anxio...

Re: CDC and Seal Emergers (concept flies)

Ray Excellent tutorial per your usual modus operandi. You absolutely must purchase this trinket: the Mark Petit Jean magic tool. I saw Oliver Edwards use one of these to tie Cadis patterns, so I had to have one. It is not only good for CDC, but it works with other feathers and materials as well. I w...

Re: PEARSALL'S IS BACK!!!

FWIW - Jim has the genuine model in stock: when you factor in all of the costs it’s just about the same price as the “new” Pearsalls.......

I personally prefer the “real thing”

Re: Catgut for bodies

Funny how, what’s old is new: in the early 1980’s using condom “material” for scuds, cress bugs, and caddis larvae was all the rage...a decade or so later, It becomes the soup de jour for Polish nymphing. Now, precut strips are sold for big $$$$ as the latest must have item. I am sure, well before m...

Re: Dye mix?

I was given a pile of white saddle and a lifetime's worth of natural mallard, I'd like to dye some of it a blue dun (light to medium-ish). Does anyone have a dye solution that would get me to that particular shade that they could share? Thanks, Mike Mike - Good luck with your dyeing mission!! Two o...

Re: Moose & Grizzly

When I saw the title it reminded me of Boris saying "moose and squirrel". You should come up with a pattern based on that for us old Rocky and Bulwinkle fans. +1 !! Excellent pattern, too..... I like to vary the hook weight with certain patterns. A heavy hook such as the one used here is ...

Re: Pearsalls Rayon thread

I have several old wooden spools of thread, which did not include the original paper labels. This makes me wonder if some old spools floating around out there are actually Rayon, instead of silk. Ray - I know you are aware of this, but do the "burn" test. Many are not aware that silk turn...
