Re: Bead Thoraxed Soft Hackled Nymphs

beads are generally not for me - 98% of flies I tie do not have one. One pattern I do use with a bead is the Gallagher - same as original dressing in Leonards book of flies. This pattern has been a staple for me since the early 1980's, sans bead! As far as catch-ability, this fly is one of my top fi...

Re: PTSd Nymph (Polish Tatra Sheepdog)

Ray - my yellow lab Rosie used to make that same expression your nephews dog has on his face, After sniffing a fish. My son calls it the fish “buffle”..... And she would eat the whole fish like they were nothing!! She would eat a 14 inch trout, or a mackerel in one gulp: Head bones, skin, guts, all ...

Re: Hen cape - what color would call this?

I have two old cock capes that are very close to the color you have there - very nice indeed !! A couple of the older guys I fish with told me that particular color is called “buff”. I use the same mono, as well as other brands and colors. Try dipping a piece in Boiling hot water, you can stretch it, flatten it, etc.

Re: Devil’s Advocate and Morus Silk

Morus Silk is only a re-branded Langley Silk at a huge cost increase. However, when you consider the extortionate prices some are charging for a spool of modern Pearsall's it brings Morus back into focus. There are lots of suitable silk threads out there, and half of the fun in flytying is separati...
