Re: P & O. using Morus silk 6b

Ken

I don't recall whether it was on this Forum or on the Classic Rod Forum, but there's several fly tiers that feel that the Java Brown and 6b silks both look very much alike when wet.

Re: Snipe & Spindrift soft hackle

David The reason I mentioned the red wire underbody and / or ribbing is that the popularity of the Shetland Spindrift #290 Oyster wool yarn probably originated for use as a replacement for the Chadwick's 477 yarn used by Frank Sawyer in tying his original Killer Bug. The #290 yarn then became popula...

Re: Snipe & Spindrift soft hackle

Although I've cut the Shetland Oyster wool into small pieces and made dubbing out of it, I've yet to tie many flies with it. I wonder how a Shetland Spindrift dubbed dressing would look with a red wire underbody and red thread?

Doug

Have been using Maxima Ultragreen for many years ... using Oliver Kite's leader formula (or as close as I can get to it) of 20# (54"), 12# (10"), 6# (10"), 5# (10") & 4# (36") as shown in his book "Nymph Fishing in Practice."

Re: Black Palmer 1839

I've tied and fished a Black Palmer for many years in several sizes, mostly in 14s and 16s, using peacock herl for the body and a black Whiting rooster saddle hackle, sometimes a black hen hackle. If I recall, both Oliver Kite and the Rev. Edward Powell both had similar dressings but they called it ...

"Kiss the Water" / Megan Boyd video

I have the "Kiss the Water" DVD about Megan Boyd and I've watched it many times., each time seeing and learning more. Recently, I did a YouTube search recently and found a BBC video called "The Art of Fly Fishing" that I first thought was just the "Kiss the Water" video...

Re: The Thornfly Dun.

Nice fly. I like the idea of having a peacock or magpie herl head on dressings, even if the original pattern doesn't call for it. Don't know if it will catch any more fish, but they sure look purdy,eh?

Re: I've Been Busy Lately

Very impressed. You are doing what I would like to do but never quite get round to doing it. I am looking forward to seeing the next phase - happy tying. David David I'm pretty well stocked with Spiders, soft hackles, nymphs and the few dries that I fish. So, the "next phase" is that I ha...

Re: I've Been Busy Lately

I'm speechless. All I can say is, amazing group of flies. How long have you been working on this box of flies? About 4 - 6 weeks. Due to back problems, I can only tie a half dozen or so at a time, then rest. Do that 3 or 4 times a day until I get 12 - 18 of the same pattern completed, then move on ...

I've Been Busy Lately

Yesterday, I finished the last 18 flies (Pritt's #62 - Black Snipe) to put in the 32 compartment storage box of North Country flies. Now to start tying some various colored Pheasant Tail, Hare's Ear, and other soft hackles / flymphs more in tuned to US-style of dressings, plus a few of the Rev. Powe...
