Re: Olive Quail
I have to agree with Ray on this one. Love that long, slender profile of the body. And It's ever so delicately fuzzy. I like that and I'm sure the fishes will too. The hackle is quite unusual too. They are not stiff are they? I guess I'm a sucker for soft, well barred, hackles no matter where they ...

Re: Inspiration....from the web
Recently I have been playing with ribbing using the vinyl type material, I don't know what it is exactly (the stuff they top czech nymphs with) in all sorts of colors with very good returns. Some of it incorporates a lot of different color shades and is translucent so that you can blend it with dubb...

Re: February Red
Nice, Carl! What hook is that? Mark Thanks guys. Mark it's an old date Mustad 3121. I like the up eye for flymphs, and this is a pretty heavy wire hook, which I also like for flymphs. Might be a little overkill on spiders. Here is where I found them. I have found some great hooks here and the price...

Olive Quail
These quail have beautiful dun breast hackles with black tips. Not a lot of these feathers on a bird. It's a transition feather from the neck to colorful breast feather. Thread: grey Griffith's 14/0 Tail: Light blue dun Body: well waxed thread and muskrat Hackle: upper breast feather from a californ...

Re: Grouse Spider
That transparent color is great. Really a beauty Andrew. I bet a little gold or silver tinsel under that waxed thread would really make it pop in clear water on a bright day.

Re: Pattern Suggestions
I was in line with Aaron, thinking a body of golden yellow with claret rib and partridge hackle. Of course an Iron Blue Dun would be a must. Maybe a claret body ribbed with purple and hackled with starling.

Re: Bi-colored Dubbing Brushes
I try to keep Atherton's ideas on multiple color use in mind whenever I am coming up with a new pattern or mixing dubbing. I have a few flymphs and softies in my box inspired by Atherton's light and dark nymphs. I often use a two tone brush on my flymphs with a darker transition into the thorax area...
