Re: Hooks
:D In sticking with recent posts...the ones that provide you with the most confidence. I don't know that there is a most popular. Everyone seems to have his or her favorite type, bend, style, eye configuration etc. Hidy, used heavy and light wire hooks depending what he was trying to mimic, and he r...

Re: Wing or no wing
I've always thought of the Prince Nymph as a stonefly pattern, or just an attractor based on profile and contrast. Here's a prince I started using last fall. Definitely doesn't imitate any insect I know but the trout love it. I tried to get away from the nymph to fit my fishing style a bit more and ...

Re: Wing or no wing
Labeling of course would depend on opinion. Nymph, emerger, dry (types of flies connected to the method of presentation to me) regardless of stage of insect. So I would see the adult in the surface film as an emerger pattern but but could really be a natural cripple, spinner, diver etc... I do agree...

So, if we compare the intent and usage of a wingless wet fly today to the intent and usage of a winged fly of that era, the intent and usage is not congruent. However, taking into account the knowl...

Yes, I recently saw "lurex" in a couple pattern recipes and was curious as well.
Great fly, I love ostrich and have had luck with a very similar fly just much slimmer.

Re: Green Butt Skunk Wingless
I saw this plate at the Fly Tying Expo in Albany, OR....stared at it for about an hour I think. Left a puddle of drool on the floor when I walked away. I agree Philip. I was having fun with this one and sticking to the theme of the classic GBS hairwing so popular for steelhead here in the Pacific No...
