Re: Is This............Pearsall's 6b (Sherry Spinner)?

Did I find a spool of the Pearsall's Gossamer unicorn (Sherry Spinner 6b)? Thanks- Ken Ken, It's difficult to decide whether that is No.6B without seeing it side-by-side with known comparisons. Perhaps this photo will help you decide... (Note Oct. 12: This is an updated photo) https://i.imgur.com/M...

Re: Woven Nymph Body Fly Patterns

Nice fly John! Bearbutt's flies are indeed an inspiration. He could lead you down a slippery slope, however. True artists like him are hard to keep up with. With enough rain and flooded rivers though, you might wake up aspiring to this... A George Grant woven nymph... https://i.imgur.com/SrukjAe.jpg...

Re: Hackle ALERT !!!

I’ve been selling materials for around 25 years. Getting natural materials is always a problem ... (shortened by deletion) Mike (Eflytyer), Thanks for your post. Dave Roberts (Feather Emporium) is a friend of mine, and he complains frequently about the availability of materials. Acquiring quality m...

Re: Hackle ALERT !!!

Phil, that is it... so that is "knee-cap"???? Your colors are spot on. My photo was taken with my iPhone and I didn't want to fuss with adjusting the colors. I am busy tying caddisflies as I continue do more research. Thanks! John, According to Dave Roberts ... yes. According to George Ke...

So what do you call this? :D
John,
Subject to unknowns about white balance, monitor differences, yada yada yada, I would suggest the color "kneecap". It's the inverse (red-black-red) of coch-y-bonddu (black-red-black).

Stefan,
Don't get your hopes up. The medium dun is a hen cape. But, nice try ...

I would enjoy sharing a campfire and consumable alcoholic beverages with you as well. That is, until I found my sleeping bag full of prickly thistles.

Cheers,

Re: Pearsall's Gossamer Silk Colors – Wet and Dry

Next step should be to keep both hook/thread and camera subsurface. That might give a different outcome. dd dd, Have you met the Forum Ghillie? He is a mischievous fellow also, and you would get along quite well together. Your pal, Phil P.S. Your spool of No.4 (Light Yellow) was mailed homeward ear...

Re: Pearsall's Gossamer Silk Colors – Wet and Dry

The dramatic color change is in unwaxed thread. Once silk is well waxed it seldom changes color when in water. It’s common in Salmon flies to use a white underbody so the over wrapped colors appear more brilliant when wet. It’s always a good idea to test a new pattern under water to see if it’s the...

Re: Pearsall's Gossamer Silk Colors – Wet and Dry

I look forward to the pictures comparing thread colors on the wooden spools versus the plastic spools. Tight Lines- Ken Ken, Other than the old and new No.15 shown in the color chart, these are the only other Gossamers for which I have both old wooden and new plastic spools. https://i.imgur.com/gCw...

Re: Pearsall's Gossamer Silk Colors – Wet and Dry

Why does "Claret" have 2 different numbers (# 14) and (#191)? Claret (#191) actually looks like the twin brother of "Cardinal Red" (#12); it looks nothing like Claret (#14). When did this color change happen? When did #15 (New) Dark Claret replace #15 (Old) Maroon? Are there any...
