Re: Tups

Has anyone have any genuine Tups dubbing. By that I don’t mean recent blends but dubbing that’s been verified as being from the early 1900’s? I’m looking for the impossible? Certainly, but no harm in asking. I would like to borrow some and then return it. I would only need a tiny sample to put under...

Re: Tinsels and other Bling...

None of the flies shown by roadkill, I would consider as too much bling, well nearly, I personally don’t like to see soft hackles tied with beads. I do fish with beaded nymphs, but only really to increase a flies sink rate. But I can see the artistry in flies ties with bling even if the fish do not....

Re: dyed starling skins

I tie quite a few small flies with starling feathers. I can't find dyed skins locally. Anyone recommend a source and are the dyed skins really worth having for variety. Does the dying weaken the feathers? Below is where I have purcahsed a lot of high quality fly tying materials... https://competiti...

Re: Greenwells Glory

I have great success for a good few years with the down wing wet fly pattern when fished on lakes when the Lake Olive is hatching. I’ve also had good success on moving waters, but I’ve never tied it with the up -wing, time to correct that now I’ve got a nice cape for the hackle and plenty of starlin...

Re: A little "Betters" influence in this Orange Partridge

I like the use of the use of the tippet for the tail. Nice looking general purpose fly.

Re: Worth Reading

Yes. John Kreft’s blog is well worth reading. He is a mine of useful information on fishing the west. Polly Rosberg has some terrific patterns, love all of them particularly for steelhead. My boxes are now pretty full so it’s time to get some more. I think I need a large box for the boat. I fished t...

Re: Pearsalls Color Chart

Here is. Pearsalls colour chart I found recently. It’s for embroidery silks but interestingly enough all the colour patches are of real silk thread. However none of the numbers seem to relate to Gossamer thread. I’m amazed at the large numbers of shades!

Re: Bead Thoraxed Soft Hackled Nymphs

Ray I really don't know the correct answer to your question, as I started with gold beads and have used them ever since. I did try a few with a clear or red colored glass bead but I hesitated since the glass beads might break in the fish's mouth which I didn't want to happen. A silver bead might ve...
