Re: Felt paged wallet OK for all soft hackles?

Dana, I’m with you in the moth problem. I to use moth balls, spray, yellow things you hang up and some Mexican slips you put in a electric heater thing. I still get them! Bastards

Re: Pete Hidy Appreciation

a really nice soft hackle. Did you use a dubbing block flymph style and palmer the hackle afterwards?

Re: Saber Hooks?

If I ever have to take a dremel to a hook, I will know right then I have been cheated. So weird With the very old Hardy hooks that I have there is no way pinching the barbs down works, a broken hook every time. I’m not the only one who uses a Dremel to remove the barbs. It’s a fine tool in both sen...

Re: Saber Hooks?

My first choice in hooks are Tiemco, not cheap but other than a bad batch ten years ago I’ve never had one break or straighten on steelies up to twenty five inches. Really sharp as well. Plenty of broken tippet or, I’m ashamed to admit, knots that have come apart. I like some of the older hooks as w...

Re: Saber Hooks?

Cheap hooks are precisely that, cheap. If you tot up the general cost of a single fishing trip it makes no sense to use a hook that cost 2.5 cents over one that cost 25 cents. I’ve had many a client loose what could be the fish of a lifetime because of a cheap broken hook. I tie many flies for my cl...

Re: Sharpes of Aberdeen Cane Rod Blanks

Bob, I totally agree with you with that a cane rod has more “feel” than a glass or carbon rod. A cane of has more “spring” than the others. Carbon rods dampen when compared to cane so maybe this is the reason. I have a couple of older Hardy Cane rods which I would never get rid of. But I would love ...

Re: Chadwicks Soft Hackle Nymph (tutorial / sbs)

If fact even Frank Sawyer ran out of 477, his wife carried on tying Killer Bugs after his death. They had to turn to a substitute, I’m not sure what they used. You can still find one or two of the Sawyers Killer Bugs, I purchased a couple of dozen. I’m also not sure of the yarn that’s on mine. I hav...

Re: Team of flies but no droppers.

hmm - i never get tangles, and I am NOT a particularly great caster. I do believe the custom leader works wonders, at least in my case!! The action of the rod has a lot to do with casting a team of flies as is the length. A ideal rod is a nice slow action 10ft or longer. Not being rude to anyone bu...
