Thanks to the incredible generosity of folks here I have a good supply of the necessary ingredients for Mike Valla's Tups dubbing, and have mixed up a few batches. I think I have it dialed in, with his recommended proportions but with the nuance that an additional half inch of red yarn is added at the end which is barely mixed, so that there are clearly visible red threads in the final mix (see, e.g., BrkTrouts' mix above). The Valla mix is also a good base for further experiments - for the Frying Pan Tups, for instance, I am experimenting with adding some tan rabbit fur to get that "dusty tan" look going. Your choice of silk will also change the end effect of course. I am playing with some ties to share but not there yet.

But time to "pay it forward" and bring it back to my original post, and to thereby encourage further obsession with this topic. I am offering 3 x 4 bags of Valla's Tup Dressing to those who PM me name and address. I'll limit this offer to 20 in the U.S. for now. I'll crank it out over over this upcoming 4th long weekend and get it out next week.

Much appreciated, Ned. I, for one, will take you up on your generous offer, PM to follow.

I would like a sample of the Valla mix too.
There are a few commercial blends I've seen but somehow, the texture wasn't quite right.
Thanks Ned.

Nice to see you back Ron.

The Valla Tups mix is out the door to all who requested it! Thanks for your interest and looking forward to seeing some flies tied with the mix.

I was fortunate to receive 2 samples of Tups dubbing. One from Bob (joaniebo) and 1 from Kevin
(NedZeppelin). One was a bit darker; with perhaps more of an orange tint. I tied some flies with each of the mixes, with the only difference being the dubbing. Of course, with my very limited photography skills, it may be hard for you to discern the difference!

My thanks to Bob and Kevin for your time and sharing these dubbing mixes that allowed me to experiment with a new pattern.
