That's a great picture of Rosborough; I had never seen that one before. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for the link Bill-that was awesome. I especially like the wading shoes he is wearing: converse sneakers without laces, tied at the top. Priceless!

Polly R was a terrific fly tyer, I know his patterns best for his steelhead flies. His nymphs had a beautiful slim design to them, he certainly didn’t waste material.

Looking at the pictures linked in this thread I feel it’s a great pity that the importance of conservation apparently wasn’t understood during the last century.

Once I’ve got my photography lights sorted I’ll try to replicate and publish one or two of his patterns. This thread is a great homage to him.

Thanks
Barry

I noticed the converse sneakers too.... and hi-tops at that.

Bill, are you a wood boat guy?
I follow Sandy's site on builds and have a Cajune design classic.

When I was growing up; I was a big fan of W. Ben Hunt. In one of his books he showed plans for a wooden English punt. I always wanted to build one but I didn't have the means. Later, life just seemed to move in other directions.

Hi Ray - Google " Punting on the Thames" and you will get a a bunch of photos of traditional British punts.
A punt is a low sided craft best suited for calm waters and places where modern high powered craft are not allowed.

I used to punt on the river Cam, which is in Cambridge, during my lunch breaks and weather permitting. There is a flock of swans there that know how to ring a small bell that is hanging over the river when they are hungry. Smoked salmon sandwiches and a bottle of bubbly. No trout there but plenty of coarse fish. Ahh, makes me want to go back! Oh, I usually took a female member of the office with me, just seemed the right thing to do.
