Another “Double Magic” fly
This has a peacock herl body wrapped with an olive Antron mix touch dubbed loop....
Pheasant hackle.

Very nice, John.
Although this is for an emerger, the video demonstrates a cool way to
create a herl brush in a dubbed loop. I have not tried it with a soft dubbing
but it works great with rabbit foot and squirrel.

Yup Rick that’s pretty much the technique.
Although I use less dubbing in the touch dub than he does in the video.
Gary LaFontaine came up with the technique way way back and it was coined “Double Magic” because it had the magic of herl and the magic of sparkle yarn sparse dubbing. He was a great advocate of sparkle yarn and was the dubbing material he used the most of in these style of flies..
Gary’s book - “Trout flies - Proven Patterns” has flies in this technique. Page 102 Twist Nymph for eg.
The Beatty’s book “LaFontaine’s Legacy” also has reference to the technique. Page 15 BH Peacock twist nymph for eg
You can use a variety of herl, and even wool, yarn etc.
Try a Prince Nymph with some sparse dark green antron in the loop....
