This version is tyed with Australian Possum fur dyed grey.

Thread - Superior Kimono Silk Thread (317) / well waxed
Tail - Hungarian Partridge Tail Fibers (Natural Barred)
Body - Muskrat or Australian Possum (Grey)
Legs/Wing - Hungarian Partridge Feather (Natural/Brown Phase)







This version is tyed with Adirondack Muskrat Dubbing (underfur raked off a patch of hide)


This patch of Muskrat must have come from the back region. The fur (guard hairs) are a rich brown, and the under fur is a deep gray/dark dun color.

FISHING TIP: Grease the wing with floatant to fish this as an emerger in the surface film.

Absolutely gorgeous Ray! I really like the focal point of this pattern, the wing! From the side it looks like the fibers are rolled or clumped in the usual way! Then you showed us the top view of this beauty! That is spectacular! So natural looking from any angle! You should be rewarded with a beautiful trout with this pattern locked firmly in its scissors!

Wayne - I’m really digging the version tyed with muskrat. The fine texture of the underfur works nicely, and I like the dark dun body. Muskrat and brown partridge make a very nice color combo. Naturally drab. It’s the lively movement of the hackle and wing that aught to draw attention on the drift.

Ray, there is a timeline on the Gunnison when my ugly little Muskrat is the ticket. Stomach samples over the past 35 years showed the trout stopped keying in on the wingless pattern, and switched to a wing version. The difference in the two is so subtle, to me, but obviously not to the trout.

I have experimented with many wing version emergers and divers. I have used everything from Z-Lon to CDC as a wing and sometimes trailing shuck. Always disappointing.

This was my last experiment. I caught some fish with it, but not the way I thought I should.


I have to try your pattern . It seriously looks like it will fill that gap I have been looking for.


Ofcourse, no matter what I do, it will look shaudy compared to yours.

Wayne - I was thinking about tying some with tailing schucks too (Z-Lon or one of the subs I bought from Fly Tying Dungeon). I like the idea of tying the Z-Lon in underneath the wing, and the herl head.
