Making wax of my own

With Jan I have made wax of my own. We used the formule 721 of Mike (thks Mike) that means: 7 parts of resin 2 parts of beeswax and one part of oil. Jan is violin builder so he had the ingredients for this wax. We put also some lavendel oil in it so it smells better. Couloring did we with wasco, a wax or stearine based color pencil.

Here is a link to the topic about wax: http://www.flymphforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1005

The color of the wax makes not to much difference.

I am totally amazed at the talents of the people of this board. Thank you so very much for sharing that pictorial. Different colored waxes never crossed my mind. Six months ago Bill (tie2fish) was gracious enough to send me some wax. I do not know how I got along without it for almost 30 years. Once again, thank you sir!

Hi Ruard;

I would never thought to try coloring with other than rosin, fascinating with the results.

I wonder if the color would effect white or lighter colored threads the same way or if the color would show with a lighter colred thread.

Now, I'm inspired to try making some 7-2-1 mixes where I try the three differnet colors of rosin I have, I've only used the darkest colored rosin so far.

Great work!

Someone on this forum mentioned the wasco pencils for coloring wax. I don't know who it was and don't know the thread where he/she said something about that.

I think one have to put a lot of colored wasco in the wax before it has any effect on the tying silk.
