I sure like the looks of your thorax hackled flymphs Ray. I am practicing to get mine looking better. I bought some Rusty Brown pheasant tail today and played around with it. The entire fly has the color Brown for a theme

Hook - Mustad 3906B
Thread - UTC 70, Brown
Rib - Copper Wire
Tail - Rusty Brown Pheasant Tail
Abdomen - Wee Folk Dubbing, Brown
Shellback - Rusty Brown Pheasant Tail
Thorax - Chocolate Hares Ear
Hackle - Brown Hen

My fly proportions are a bit sloppy, but I am getting happier with the hackle. You are a great inspiration Ray.

Wayne - Now THAT is a stonefly imitation! I'd fish this in a heartbeat (sincere compliment).

I am reminded of the stonefly patterns of Charles Brooks. Proven patterns.

Ray and Wayne, I wanted to comment on the flies earlier, and I knew they were great to see...even on my phone, but when I opened them on my machine...whoa!. Ray that body combination is full of the right stuff. I like that Morris style dorsal/tail design. I have always thought it made for a nice nymph body whether you're trying to play hatch matching imitation or used in a more general/effective design. This does it all very well. The contrast should be an easy trigger.

Wayne, Ray said what I would have regarding the stonefly imitation. Especially for your water, that really should be very effective. And you have a nice way with these things.

Ray funny you mentioned Charles Brooks. I have one of his books on the way (The Trout and the Stream, 1974), after Mark mentioned him in another thread and I was reading a review from another book. His name came up four times in two days from different directions...I had to do something about that.
