A generic softhackle, using mallard flank fluff as thorax and head.

hook - Mustad 3399A #12
thread - MFC 8/0 Light Brown
abdomen - opal tinsel medium (colored with tan sharpie)
thorax/head - mallard flank fluff dyed woodduck
hackle - partridge dyed tan

mash barb, start thread 1 eye width back from eye; tie in tinsel (you could tie in the hackle, but it kinda gets in the way when wrapping the tinsel)

Image

wrap tinsel to bend and back

Image

prep partridge; tie in by tip (switched light source setting on camera to get better focus but introduced greenish cast in the process)

trim tips of the fluff on one side of a mallard flank feather; insert in clip and cut away from quill

unwind thread to remove any twist; split with needle, insert clip, trap fluff in thread, release from clip, spin bobbin to create chenille-ish thing

wrap thorax up to hackle (take a temporary wrap past hackle)

Image

wrap hackle, sweeping fibers back

Image

unwind the temporary wrap with the chenille, then complete head, half hitch x 2, SHHAN (switched back to old light source setting)

Very caddis like. . Man I bet that would be killer for Grannom on Penns. Very nice Scott.

William, tie some of these for me. Pronto.

No problem. I think I need to find one of these tan dyed skins. That tone is great.

Scott, another exceptional sbs. I haven't fooled with this fluff method in ages but it's one of those things..it looked great so I tried it but forgot to come back to it. Now I'm in for another round. Thanks again.

ScottP, Howdy;

Wow ya really know how to make an entrance!
These S-B-s's you've been putting up are the cat's whiskers...
Very well done and easy enough for a visual learner such as
myself to figure out and probably replicate, well get kinda
close anyway...
Thanks for taking the time to do these and of course sharing them.
