Saw this somewhere; tied it, tried it, embraced it. Simple and fast, the ostrich hackle is easy to work with especially for smaller flies (you could easily take this down to a #20). Bead head or weight is optional but I like to fish this as an emerger.

hook - Tiemco 3769 #16
thread - UTC 70 woodduck
Tail/body - Pheasant tail fibers
rib - UTC wire x-small copper
flashback - mylar tinsel medium holo-copper
softhackle - ostrich ginger/gold

Mash down barb and attach thread at 75% mark; tie in copper wire and wrap back to point above barb

Image

measure a few pheasant tail fibers (shank length) and tie in; wrap forward to 75% mark

Image

fold fibers back and tie down

Image

tie in tinsel and continue wrapping back to tail tie-in

Image

move thread back to 75% mark, wrap pheasant fibers forward and tie off

Image

pull tinsel forward over top

Image

spiral wire rib forward, tie off and helicopter wire

Image

tie in ostrich herl

Image

wet fingers, stroke fibers back while wrapping

half hitch x2 and SHHAN

Scott, I love the simplicity of this. Lots of effect for such a simple construction.

Very efficient tying. Quick, beautiful, and definitely fishy! What more could you ask for.

Kudos!
