Ron - That is exactly the reason I bought these colors. Your dye job on the calf tail you sent me (Santa swap) was outstanding.

ChugBug, that BWO color looks spot on. Very successful dye process.

Thanks, Ron. I used Ray's same process. Here's a handy cheat sheet for color mixing and measuring...

It also helps to ask your wife to help in picking the colors, at least for me

Thanks. I figured I'd start things on the light side, then work my way up thru a range of different shades by adding more dye to each subsequent batch. The individual patches can then be used for blending purpose. The starting color of the fur has a big impact on the final shade. These fur patches were all taken from the same hide. There is an very wide variation in color, depending on where the fur came from (belly sections were much lighter than the middle back and head regions).

Do you remember what blend of dye colors you used for the BWO? If so, please share.

I like your approach better, trying to capture the subtleties of the natural materials rather than overwhelming them to get to a uniform particular color.

For the bwo I used a mixture of 1 part sunshine orange, 2 parts dark green, and 3 parts tan, plus a few teaspoons of vinegar here and there. If you have camel you could go 1 part dark green to 2 parts camel and get pretty much the same result, I think.

Oh man that dying chart is great. I never came across it when I was doing my calf tail dying a while back. Thanks for sharing.

Howdy All;

Chugbug's statement " It also helps to ask your wife to help in picking the colors, at least for me
😉 " is SOOOOOOOO, important specially when choosing paint for a touch-up in the home... :roll:
