I used SWIX many years ago before I became more proficient at rolling dubbing on the thread.

Okay, I don't feel so silly anymore. I've been using it for years; though some of the Klister's are positively evil and appropriate only for Spanish inquisitional sessions. I like his idea of the golf tee as an applicator. It's a lot cheaper than buying tubes of Overton's.

One plumber's toilet wax ring for about $3 may also be a lifetime supply of sticky wax for dubbing!! ;)

As a dyer I’m prone to looking up SDS sheet on chemicals for my own safety. Just a head’s up. I deal with some stuff others wouldn’t touch.

Bill
 Are the plumbers wax rings in compliance with EPA regs like the ski waxes?

:?: What do those say about tyers head cements, thinners, and resins?

I don’t know where to begin because this subject is complicated. I will point out not many plumbers lick their fingers like some fly tyers do when dubbing. Any product specifically made for fly tying is probably safe.

Shame I can't like a post but I do like it pointed out that not many plumbers lick their fingers. That's a two thumbs up in my book.

Finger lickin' good! :o ;)

I have kept a wet sponge on my tying table for decades. I started after reading discussions questioning how safe our tying materials are coming in from foreign lands. Who knows what dyes, treatments and/or pesticides have been used on our fur and feathers.

Yup, I also use toilet ring wax and lick my fingers, too. Another one I tried a while ago was the stub end of a stick of old belt dressing. We used it to keep the canvas belt on the sawmill; hard to find stick dressings anymore. I believe many of those belt dressings had a significant amount of rosin in them. I licked my fingers then, too.
